Football Trial Email and Message Templates

4 min read

A good football trial message should be short, specific and easy to evaluate.

Use the templates below as a starting point, then personalize them for your position, level and the club you are contacting.

What every message should include

Include:

  • Name
  • Age
  • Position
  • Location
  • Current or previous club
  • Recent level
  • Availability
  • Profile or video link
  • Clear request

Do not force all your history into the first message.

What not to write

Avoid:

  • “Sign me”
  • “I guarantee I’m good enough”
  • “Please reply urgently”
  • Very long personal stories
  • Copying the same message to every club
  • Sending several links without explanation
  • Demanding a trial

Professional confidence is useful. Pressure is not.

Before sending

Check:

  • Is the club relevant?
  • Does it need your position?
  • Is the coach’s name correct?
  • Does your link work?
  • Is your profile current?
  • Is your location clear?
  • Did you state your availability?
  • Is the message concise?

Frequently asked questions

What should the subject line be?

Use your position, availability and name. Example: “Goalkeeper available for trial — Sam Taylor.”

Should I attach a football CV?

A profile link is usually easier to view on mobile. Attach a PDF only when requested.

Should I include statistics?

Include meaningful, verifiable statistics where relevant. Do not overload the first message.

How many coaches should I message?

Contact a focused list of relevant coaches rather than sending hundreds of identical messages.

When should I follow up?

Wait several days and follow up once.
